If you suddenly found yourself staring at your fan blades this morning, you’re not alone. The National Grid has suffered yet another collapse,  the fifth time this year.

The system went down around 11:50 a.m., plunging from a healthy 2,917MW all the way to just 20.80MW. In simple terms, total blackout.

Restoration efforts are ongoing, and as of now, supply has crawled back up to 50MW, shared across a few Discos:

  • Abuja Disco – 20MW

  • Ibadan Disco – 20MW

  • Benin Disco – 10MW

The last time this happened was in April, and after four quiet months, September has now delivered its own episode of “grid collapse.”

At this rate, Nigerians have stopped asking if the grid will collapse again, the real question is when. For now, keep your generators close and your patience closer.
