It was pure excitement at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, as the 2nd Senator Abiru Mixed Team Table Tennis Championship took center stage from October 30th to November 1st, 2025. For three thrilling days, the hall echoed with cheers, fast-paced rallies, and the sound of paddles clashing in fierce but friendly competition.
The championship, an initiative of the Sail Empowerment Foundation, brought together some of the most promising young talents from Nigeria, Togo, and the Benin Republic, all united by one goal: to showcase their skills, teamwork, and passion for the game. It wasn’t just about who could deliver the fastest serve or the sharpest spin; it was about community, connection, and the power of youth sports.



As the matches heated up, spectators were treated to a display of sheer determination and talent. Each point won drew loud cheers from the crowd, and every rally showed just how much the sport has grown across West Africa.
In the grand finale, Team Oyo State rose above the competition with an impressive performance that sealed their place as champions. Bayelsa and Kwara followed closely, taking the second and third spots in what turned out to be a fiercely contested showdown. The winners didn’t just walk away with glory, they took home a whopping ₦5.5 million in prize money, a well-deserved reward for their grit and teamwork.



Beyond the competition, the event reflected Senator Tokunbo Abiru’s unwavering commitment to youth and sports development. Through this championship, he continues to empower young athletes, giving them a platform to shine and inspiring the next generation of champions.
