Content creators woke up today to a mini plot twist on TikTok: the Live button suddenly decided to call it a night way earlier than expected. As early as 7 p.m., some users could still hit the button and broadcast to their fans, but once the clock crawled towards those “after-hours” moments, many noticed a complete shutdown. No Live, no audience, no late-night bants. Just vibes… offline.

According to TikTok, this isn’t a glitch; it’s a temporary safety measure. The app rolled out in-app notices explaining that late-night live streams are being restricted in Nigeria while its safety team carries out an ongoing review. Translation: TikTok is checking the locks and windows before the house party continues.

While some creators are already feeling the pinch in their wallets, after all, gifts don’t fall from the sky, others are taking it as a much-needed reset, especially following the chaos that has sometimes turned the platform into a digital Wild West. Remember when TikTok revealed it shut down over 49,000 live sessions in Nigeria in just one quarter due to rule-breaking antics? Yeah, it seems the app is still cleaning up from that storm.

For now, TikTok hasn’t given precise “lights-out” hours or said how long this safety inspection will last. So, creators are left refreshing the app like they’re waiting for NEPA to bring back light, hopeful, slightly annoyed, but still ready to go live the moment the switch flips back on.

Until then, it’s early nights and creative brainstorming for Nigeria’s TikTok fam. The streets may be quiet after dark, but trust Naija creators, the comeback content will be LOUD.
