Popular businessman and music mogul Emeka Okonkwo, famously known as E-Money, has landed in hot water with Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the EFCC, after allegedly turning a party into a currency carnival.

The CEO of Emmy Cargoes and founder of Five Star Music was picked up in Lagos on the morning of Tuesday, April 29, over claims he violated the Central Bank of Nigeria’s rules on public currency handling. According to EFCC insiders, videos surfaced showing E-Money generously “spraying” both naira and U.S. dollars at a flashy Lagos bash a move that’s frowned upon (and technically illegal) under Nigerian law and the Foreign Exchange Act.

So far, neither E-Money nor the EFCC has issued a formal statement. But that hasn’t stopped social media from lighting up, with many Nigerians debating whether this is a serious crackdown or just another case of selective enforcement especially in a society where public displays of wealth are part of the VIP package.

Looks like the price of making it rain might just be a date with the EFCC.
