Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have once again proven their dominance on the continent, claiming their fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title after a commanding 78–64 win over Mali in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

Led by head coach Rena Wakama, the first female to coach the team to this height, D’Tigress showcased grit and class throughout the tournament. After trailing Mali in the first quarter, the Nigerian side came back strong, dominating the second half with standout performances from Ezinne Kalu (20 points) and Amy Okonkwo (19 points, 9 rebounds), who also won tournament MVP for the second time in a row.

Their road to the title included big wins over Rwanda, Cameroon, and a tough semifinal battle against Senegal. Every player contributed, showing the team’s depth and unity.

With this win, they’ve not just made history, they’ve inspired a generation of female ballers.

Congratulations, D’Tigress. Five stars.
