Ayra Starr just made history! The Nigerian star has become the first woman in 16 years to win the Best African Music Act at the MOBO Awards, cementing her status as a powerhouse in Afrobeats. But she didn’t stop there, she also bagged Best International Act, proving that her music isn’t just making waves in Africa but across the globe.

The MOBO Awards, held this year at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena, have long been a beacon, celebrating the richness of music of Black origin. This year’s ceremony was no exception, with a lineup that showcased both emerging talents and established artists.

British rapper Bashy, also known as Ashley Thomas, had a night to remember, securing Best Hip-Hop Act and Album of the Year for his poignant work, “Being Poor Is Expensive”.

Meanwhile, British-Nigerian artist Darkoo lit up the stage, taking home Best Female Act and Song of the Year for her infectious track “Favourite Girl” featuring Dess Dior.

Odeal, another rising star, was recognized as Best Newcomer and Best R&B/Soul Artist, cementing his place in the industry.

Central Cee continued his meteoric rise, earning Best Male Act and tying with Stormzy as the most-decorated rapper in MOBO history, each boasting seven awards.

The evening also paid homage to legends, with Denise Lewis receiving the Paving the Way award and Vybz Kartel honored with the Impact award, acknowledging their significant contributions to music and culture.
