It was a night to forget for Brazil as they were thoroughly outplayed by Argentina in a 4-1 defeat at home on Tuesday. Dorival Junior’s squad was simply outclassed and outcoached by Lionel Scaloni’s men in this South American clash of giants. Brazil couldn’t keep up with the pace, and Argentina dominated from the start.

The match kicked off with an early strike from Julian Alvarez just four minutes in, and Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez quickly doubled the lead in the 12th minute. Brazil found a glimmer of hope when Matheus Cunha scored a well-placed goal to pull one back. But Argentina responded with a third goal just nine minutes later, as Alexis Mac Allister made it 3-1 before halftime.

Despite making three substitutions after the break, Dorival couldn’t change the outcome. Argentina sealed the deal with a stunning goal from Giuliano Simeone in the 71st minute, a near-impossible strike from the edge of the touchline that left Bento helpless in goal.

With the March international break wrapping up, Brazil sits fourth in the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying standings with 21 points from 14 matches. While their victory over Colombia earlier this week was crucial, their encounter with the reigning World Cup champions is one they’d rather forget.
