Arsenal left it painfully late, but when the final whistle blew at the Emirates, it was pure relief and euphoria for the home fans. A cruel 94th-minute own goal from Yerson Mosquera handed the Gunners a dramatic 2–1 win over bottom-placed Wolves, pushing Mikel Arteta’s side five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

For long spells, this was not the routine home win many expected. Wolves arrived in North London with grit, discipline, and nothing to lose, and they made Arsenal work for every inch. The visitors frustrated the league leaders throughout the first half, limiting them to zero shots on target while also threatening on the break. David Raya had to stay alert, producing a sharp one-on-one save to deny Hwang Hee-Chan and keep the scores level.

The breakthrough eventually came in fortunate fashion. Bukayo Saka’s corner in the 70th minute struck the post and rebounded off Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, rolling over the line for an own goal. It was harsh on a Wolves side that had defended superbly, but Arsenal finally had the lead they had been chasing.

Instead of killing the game, though, the Gunners dropped deep, and they paid for it. In the 90th minute, substitute Tolu Arokodare rose highest to glance a header past Raya after Matheus Cunha’s effort took a telling deflection, stunning the Emirates and seemingly stealing a famous point for a winless Wolves side.

Just when it looked like Arsenal had let it slip, chaos struck. Deep into stoppage time, Saka swung in a dangerous cross and under intense pressure from Gabriel Jesus, Mosquera could only divert the ball into his own net. The Emirates erupted as Arsenal found a winner that felt as dramatic as it was decisive.

The late victory could prove massive in the title race. A draw would have opened the door for Manchester City to leapfrog Arsenal with a win over Crystal Palace, but Arteta’s men have now thrown the pressure straight back at their rivals.
