Harry Kane can finally breathe a sigh of relief and maybe even allow himself a little smile. After 15 long years of near-misses and heartbreak, the England captain has finally won the first major trophy of his career.

On Sunday, Bayern Munich were officially crowned Bundesliga champions, and with that, Kane’s long wait for silverware came to an end. The German giants wrapped up their 12th title in 13 years after their closest challengers, Bayer Leverkusen, slipped up with a 2-2 draw against Freiburg.

Leverkusen needed a win to keep the title race alive, but they left it too late. Freiburg went ahead just before half-time with a stunning long-range strike from Maxi Eggestein, and things went from bad to worse for Leverkusen when a cross deflected off Piero Hincapie for an own goal early in the second half. To their credit, Leverkusen pushed back. Florian Wirtz pulled one back in the 82nd minute, and Jonathan Tah found a dramatic equaliser in stoppage time when a cross hit his shoulder and flew into the net. But it wasn’t enough. With just two games left and Bayern eight points ahead, the title was out of reach.

In truth, Bayern had already done the heavy lifting. A 3-3 draw at RB Leipzig on Saturday had all but secured the title. Sunday’s result simply made it official. For manager Vincent Kompany, it’s a title-winning debut season in charge. For Bayern, it’s their record-extending 34th league title.

But for Kane, this one means just a bit more.

After years of chasing glory with Tottenham where he reached the Champions League final in 2019 and with England, finishing runners-up in two European Championship finals (2021 and 2024), he’s finally broken the curse.

This season, the 31-year-old striker has been in top form, scoring 24 goals in 29 Bundesliga appearances. He’s played a huge part in Bayern’s success, proving he can thrive outside of the Premier League and under the pressure of expectation.
