Album Review: 5 Things We Love from Davido’s 5ive

In classic Davido fashion, the Afrobeats megastar delivers 5ive, a genre-fusing, hit-packed, vibe-heavy project that proves he’s still the king of versatility. 17 tracks, 11 features, and a whole lot of grooves. From love ballads to club bangers, Davido didn’t come to play, he came to 5lay.
Here are 5 things we’re loving from 5ive:
1. Davido the Lover Boy Is Still in the Building
From “CFMF (Can’t Feel My Face)” to “10 Kilo,” Davido wears his heart on his designer sleeve. Whether he’s serenading his girl or promising forever, his pen game stays romantic. That line, “If I no sing about you, wetin I wan sing, baby?”, is pure lover-boy magic.
2. He’s Got That Amapiano Juice
Tracks like “Anything” and “Be There Still” are soaked in South African Amapiano goodness. He’s not just riding the waves; he’s leading the party. The bounce, the bass, the hooks? Unskippable. Though maybe we could’ve done with a little more variety in the sound.
3. New Collabs, New Sauce
From Chris Brown on “Titanium” to YG Marley on “Awuke,” Davido brings in global and local talents to shake things up. One minute you’re in Lagos, next you’re on a Caribbean cruise with R&B dripping from the speakers.
4. Growth. Grit. Glow-Up.
“Started from face me, I face you”, yes, we heard it. Fans raised eyebrows, but it’s less about his literal upbringing and more about the hustle in his music career. On “Anything,” he reflects: “…as I dey, I go fit conquer anything.” Self-awareness in a dance track? We love it.
5. Genre Fusion on Steroids
Afrobeats? Check. R&B? Present. Amapiano? All over. Disco vibes? “With You” got you. Davido’s 5ive is a buffet of sound, and somehow, everything blends smoothly. The transitions are clean, and the vibe? Immaculate.
Overall, 5ive is a fun ride with plenty of highlights, but it falls just short of greatness compared to his previous album ‘Timeless’, with a strong 7/10 rating. While Davido’s star power shines through and the production slaps, there’s room for stronger songwriting and a bit less repetition, especially across the Amapiano-heavy tracks. Still, it’s a solid, enjoyable album from an artist who knows how to keep fans dancing and listening.
