The MTV VMAs are always good for drama, glamour, and a touch of history, but this year belonged to one young superstar. South Africa’s Tyla has once again proven she’s in a league of her own, taking home the Best Afrobeats award for the second year in a row. With her infectious single “Push 2 Start”, she not only clinched the trophy but made history as the first artiste to win the award twice in a row.

This year’s Afrobeats lineup was a heavy-hitter affair, with nominees including Burna Boy, Wizkid, Tems, Rema, Asake, and Moliy. Yet Tyla’s global resonance and ability to blend amapiano flair with Afrobeats grooves made her stand out.
