Cristiano Ronaldo added another sparkle to a career already studded with trophies and headlines, but this one had a hometown ring to it. The 40-year-old Al-Nassr forward was the first recipient of the Portugal Football Federation’s new Prestige Globe, a special honour introduced at the Portugal Football Globes gala in Lisbon on October 7, 2025. The ceremony, staged at the Convento do Beato,  honoured his more than two decades serving the Selecao and marked the launch of an award meant to celebrate long-term impact on Portuguese football.

Taking the mic to accept the award, Ronaldo made the evening feel less like a farewell and more like a next chapter. He thanked teammates, coaches and fans and framed the prize not as a capstone but as a prompt to keep going, underlining that talk of him quitting the international stage is premature.

If anyone’s keeping score, they already know why the applause was long. Ronaldo remains Portugal’s record scorer and a player whose profile stretches far beyond club allegiances; the honour was both symbolic and expected. At club level he’s still fronting Al-Nassr, and at international level his presence is central as Portugal head into important 2026 World Cup qualifying fixtures.

For a man who’s made lifting trophies look like a hobby, this one hits different, it’s Portugal saluting its ever-present captain. And if anyone thought the Globe Prestige Award was a goodbye gift, Ronaldo just made it clear: he’s not done collecting medals, goals, or headlines anytime soon.
