In a move that has shaken the global entertainment industry, Netflix has announced its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery in a landmark deal valued at $82.7 billion. The agreement, which was confirmed on December 5, 2025, marks one of the biggest mergers in Hollywood history and positions Netflix as the most powerful player in streaming and studio entertainment.

Under the deal, Netflix will purchase Warner Bros.’ studios and streaming assets after Warner Bros. Discovery spins off its cable networks — including CNN, TNT, and TBS — into a separate public company. Each WBD shareholder will receive $27.75 per share, paid through a mix of cash and Netflix stock. The transaction is expected to close around the third quarter of 2026, pending regulatory approval.

For viewers, this acquisition could mean a single platform hosting a massive content library — from HBO’s award-winning series and Warner’s classic films to Netflix’s global originals. The merger also expands Netflix’s production power, giving it access to world-class studios and some of the industry’s biggest franchises.

However, the deal is already drawing scrutiny. Regulators and industry insiders fear the merger could reduce competition, limit creative diversity, and impact theatrical releases. Some creators have openly expressed concern about one company controlling such a large share of the entertainment pipeline.

Still, if approved, this will reshape how movies and TV shows are produced, distributed, and consumed. Netflix’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery signals a new era — one where streaming, legacy studios, and blockbuster franchises merge into a single global entertainment powerhouse.
