Family Feud to Reconciliation: Inside Asake’s Weekend Dispute with His Father

Over the weekend, Nigerian Afrobeat sensation Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, was at the center of a family dispute that quickly garnered public attention. The controversy began when Asake’s father, Fatai Odunsi, publicly accused his son of neglecting him during a period of ill health.
In a video that circulated widely, Odunsi claimed he had been battling a stroke since March 2022 and alleged that Asake had ceased communication and financial support since then. He appealed to the public for assistance, stating, “The last time I saw him was when this happened to me on March 29, 2022. He does not pick up my calls anytime I call him.”
Responding to these allegations, Asake took to social media, expressing his side of the story through a heartfelt Yoruba song. He conveyed feelings of being manipulated despite his efforts to support his father, singing, “You can’t please everyone, you can’t please the world. But anything you are doing, just do it for God. My own father wants to cajole me, and I have sent so much money to him.”
The situation escalated when other family members intervened, urging Asake to take responsibility not only for his father’s welfare but also for his alleged 11-year-old daughter, Zeenat. A family representative appealed to the singer, suggesting he purchase a property worth ₦50 million in Isale Eko to provide rental income for his father. They also called for a DNA test to confirm Zeenat’s paternity, stating that her mother was willing to cooperate.
In a positive turn of events, reconciliation efforts seem to have been successful. On Sunday, Odunsi appeared in a new video expressing pride in his son and revealing that Asake had agreed to address the family’s concerns. He mentioned that real estate agents were actively searching for a suitable house in Lagos, as Asake had promised to purchase one for him. Odunsi also confirmed that Asake had committed to taking full responsibility for Zeenat, emphasizing that there was never a denial of his child.
This series of events highlights the complexities that can arise within families, especially when public figures are involved. It also underscores the importance of communication and understanding in resolving personal disputes, even under the scrutiny of public attention.
