Nigerian man breaks Guinness world record for longest videogame Marathon

A Nigerian biochemist known as Oside Oluwole (aka” Khoded”) has broken the longest football videogame marathon.

The record was previously held by England’s David Whitefoot, who played the videogame for 50 hours back in 2022 and lasted two years before Oside Oluwole’s triumph.

The 24-year-old surpassed the previous record holder by playing the Dream League Soccer 2023 on his iPhone connected to his television for a staggering 75 hours. He played more than 500 matches while attempting to successfully break the record.

“It wasn’t an easy task, but I must say it was all fun” he stated. He continued “I really enjoyed myself playing for 75 hours straight with just some hours of rest,” he said.

The rules of the Guinness World Record for all past “Longest Marathon” allowed him to get five minutes of break for each hour he was playing the game so he could eat, nap, and use the restroom.

He undertook the challenge to be able to raise money for a local hospital in his hometown of Ijebu Ode, Ogun state.

Oluwole was inspired to embark on this challenge by Hilda Bacci who broke the record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual tagged “Cook-a-thon” where she cooked for 93 hours and 11 minutes.

After the completion of the record attempt, Oluwole Oside was commended for his dedication by a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Seun Adesanya in a press release where he stated “The Guinness World Records (title) is a testament to Mr Oluwole’s dedication, determination, and the countless hours of practice he invested in mastering the game”  He also went on to say “His achievement stands as an inspiration to all aspiring gamers and an embodiment of the unyielding spirit of determination
